Finding success as a Community Paramedic demands a variety of skill sets from the EMS practitioner. In-depth clinical knowledge of chronic disease processes is a must, but the role also requires a willingness to forge and nurture scores of health-related connections within one’s service area. Community Paramedics must be patient, empathetic, and dogged in their determination to advocate for those who may otherwise fall through the cracks.
Our awardee embodies each of these traits. She is a cornerstone of our mobile integrated health programs and has improved countless lives during her tenure.
She has been a paramedic for the last 25 years, and in many ways, operated as a Community Paramedic before the title formally existed. She is a highly skilled and compassionate clinician that has a track record of going above and beyond for patients who could benefit from additional in-home healthcare services.
She is a vigorous patient advocate, assisting district paramedics and patients daily in navigating complex patient situations. She was one of the initial MIH providers in her organization.
She is an outstanding individual with many amazing qualities. The author of her primary nomination was quoted “I would certainly entrust to her the care of my family and believe she has improved the lives and outcomes for countless patients.” Community Paramedicine plays a critical role in today’s healthcare landscape, and its importance will only continue to grow moving forward.
