In 2022, our awardee established six areas of clinical importance; focused on the “low frequency/high risk” calls for service.

The department began 2022 with establishing the minimum statistics of where the department was to benchmark goals.

Throughout 2022, our members have implemented and received immediate feedback on patient encounters and have seen increases in the quality monitoring of the care provided.

When combined with a robust quality improvement program, positive improvement and continued was observed.

Quarterly, department members are presented within an overall picture of what we are doing, where we are succeeding, and where improvements can be made.

This accountability is further fostered by the development and implementation of a regional Medical Advisory Board. This board is made up of regional pre-hospital professionals, emergency physicians, and hospital providers who provide the department feedback on our own data and further our desire for overall improvement.

The department established the Community Care Team to determine who our most at-risk patients are and to meet their needs before an ambulance responds or they need hospitalization.

The department has also sought out ways to teach the community the importance of early compressions and defibrillation in cardiac arrests. This has resulted in our city being ranked second in the state of Missouri for bystander CPR and AED use during cardiac arrests per the Missouri Cardiac Arrest Registry for Enhanced Survival.

The 2023 EMS Agency of the year is the Clayton Fire Department.
